In 2026, JCI Roxas Halaran, the Roxas City chapter of Junior Chamber International, served under President Jaime Altavas. We ran a community run for men's mental health, a boat race for Baybay's fisherfolk, a free haircut day on the coast and a new public mural. We also came home from the national convention with the JCIPEA Diamond Seal of Efficiency. This review covers January to October.

The year is not over yet, so we will update this page in December. Until then, thank you to every member, volunteer, partner and neighbor who showed up. Salamat gid (thank you very much, in Hiligaynon).

January to May: trainings, clean-ups and JCI Week

The year opened with trainings. In February we ran Protocol Training and Project Launchpad 2.0, a business session on innovation, starting a business and working with AI, both online for National Training Month. On February 14 we supported the Capiz Love Run with Run Capiz. On February 28 we joined Filamer Christian University NSTP students for a coastal clean-up at Baybay, then served meals through Hot Meals on Wheels, our mobile feeding program.

In March, the first batch of our Computer Literacy Program finished in Brgy. San Juan, Baybay, with 16 graduates. Secretary John Moses Aposaga was their trainer.

JCI Week in April was busy:

  • On April 24 we turned over Project G.I.L.L.S. trash traps and a solid waste system to Brgy. Punta Cogon, with an awareness talk by The Tree Huggers Movement.
  • With our twin chapter JCI Regatta and the Iloilo Pabalhas Basketball Club, we held "Silence in the Court", a Deaf-inclusive basketball scrimmage that also taught basic sign language.
  • We closed the week in Bacolod as technical host of JCI Got Talent 2026.

On April 30 we partnered with the LGU of Maayon, with JCI Roxas Makawiwili as co-host, on a celebration for 77 solo parents. That evening we welcomed Area 4 to Roxas City with a Sunset Session at Baia Norte, Day Zero of the 2nd Area Council Meeting. Work on our mural marker by artist Jonard Villarde also began that night.

We also released "111: Hapag ng Daigdig", an original song and music video for the 2026 JCI World Congress, built around Zero Hunger. Its page is Hapag ng Daigdig.

June: Man-Up month and the coast

June is Men's Mental Health Month, and our Man-Up program carried most of it.

HalaRUN for Juan (14 June)

More than 600 runners took the 5K and 10K routes from People's Park, Baybay, in a community run with Run Capiz. We used it to launch our Blue Flow clean-water campaign, with QR codes on water bottles. Hot Meals on Wheels served fortified rice and vitamin porridge.

Coastline Cuts (20 June)

At Dumolog Covered Court, Coastline Cuts gave 107 free haircuts. The barbers were two from the local fisherfolk community and four from the LGBT+ community of Roxas City. The cut hair was saved for future Think Green projects.

IRONMEN Awards and Talentadong Tatay 2026 (21 June)

At SM City Roxas we held the second IRONMEN Awards, honoring six men in five categories. Talentadong Tatay 2026, a talent show for fathers, followed. JCI Roxas Makawiwili and JCI Roxas Sinadya co-hosted both.

Lumba-anay sa Baybay and Pinta Baruto (23 June)

Under the banner "Sa Dagat: Kabuhi Mo, Kabuhi Ko!", Barangay Baybay fisherfolk raced their boats in three engine divisions during the San Juan Festival. Over 100 committee members ran the event. Eight local artists painted two fiberglass boats donated by the Kiwanis Club of Roxas City. See SA DAGAT.

Blue Flow, Arbor Day and the men's symposium

On June 24 we streamed the virtual launch of The Blue Flow Initiative, an Area 4 campaign for clean water and sanitation. On Provincial Arbor Day 2026, we joined the planting led by CaPENRO in Brgy. Manoling, President Roxas, where 1,000 native fruit tree saplings went in (see how to organize a tree planting).

On June 30 we were resource partner for the Symposium on Men's Mental Health at Leon Ganzon Polytechnic College in Balasan, Iloilo, where Secretary Aposaga gave two talks.

Earlier in June we gave every pupil at Balaring Elementary School in Ivisan a school bag under Bags of Hope, and trained young leaders for the Youth Leadership Excellence Award.

July to October: culture, courts and care

  • Sampukanay 2026. StreetKingz Fam organized Roxas City's first crew-vs-crew dance battle, and we backed it through our Lupad Lokal program. Twelve crews entered, and the finals on July 11 went to a sudden-death tie-breaker. See Sampukanay 2026.
  • Human Duties Week. From July 4 to 10 we ran an open dance cypher at Mercado de Roxas, an artist talk at Green Papaya Art Projects and an online orientation for new members.
  • IPBC T10 Invitational Basketball League. With JCI Regatta and IPBC, this league focused on reducing inequalities and ran at Eternity City Arena from July until the championship on September 6.
  • Health drives. Hot Meals on Wheels fed volunteers at a Lions memorial blood drive. It also joined the Capiz Provincial Health Office's measles-rubella immunization launch, where 150 children were vaccinated.
  • Komunidad. On August 7 we unveiled the marker for "Komunidad", Jonard Villarde's mural at Baia Norte. See Mural Marker Inauguration.
  • The Innovators Summit. On August 17 and 18 we co-hosted its Roxas City leg with JCI Roxas Makawiwili.
  • Skin diving. On September 30 we ran a Skin Diving Theory Basics course with PADI instructor Jet Valenzuela.
  • BJMP San Jose. For Elderly Filipino Week, six members led by Jasper Sayo joined a medical outreach at the jail and served snacks to 20 senior inmates and 30 staff.
