On August 7, 2026, JCI Roxas Halaran unveiled the marker for "Komunidad", a mural by local artist Jonard Villarde, at Baia Norte on the black-sand shore of Baybay, Roxas City. The chapter describes it as a piece of art that now has its own place in the community: something people can pass by, pause for, and hopefully see a little of themselves in.
How it started
Work on the mural began months earlier. On April 30, 2026, the chapter hosted a "Sunset Session" at Baia Norte to welcome Area 4 to Roxas City for Day Zero of the 2nd Area Council Meeting. It was a drink-potluck evening with beats by DJ Yuki, and it marked the first strokes of the chapter's official 2026 mural marker. Footage from that evening, with the Day Zero guests, local artists and Baybay residents, became the chapter's "Fellowship" lyric video.
The board took up the plans for the marker again at its Q3 meeting on July 1, 2026, as part of the final stretch of the term.
Unveiling night
The unveiling was set for 4:00 PM on August 7. That same evening, 18 members stayed on at Baia Norte for the August General Membership Meeting, talking through upcoming initiatives with "Komunidad" behind them.
The project sits under the chapter's Lupad Lokal and Black Sand Kings flagships, which back local artists and the Baybay coast. It is one way the chapter tries to make public spaces more meaningful and to give local creatives a lasting place in them.
